Before sending your resume, it is of utmost importance for you to glance it up. There are numerous areas which can be highlighted as per the post you are applying for. In case, you are applying for a middle management profile, you can highlight your quantitative work efforts. Include new areas and relevant ones so that talking during your interview will be relatively easy. Know the most important question is. ‘Say something about your self.’ Here the employer is studying your confidence level and whether you are comfortable about your personality.

For a fresher, rehearsing is good. It will work well if you know some things about the new lingo used in the corporate world. The first sentence you speak must have a word that is convincing. If you are applying for a teachers post, you must make it clear that you love teaching and love kids. This is the highlight of your interview and most of the questions will be around the same. Imaginative ideas are not needed while talking on the panel. The idea is to be relevant and share your experience. The management will also like to know your long term goals and the reason why you want to be here.

It is very important to have an open attitude. In case you are not directly able to comprehend a question it is perfectly fine to ask for it to be repeated. Thereby, you will not ramble and the point will clearly come across. Most of the short listed candidates are eligible ones as they have conveyed a lot via their resume. During an interview the body language must never be dominating. Eye contact with all the interviewees on the panel is a must. There is no need to get cornered and you can state your views with proper conduct in case you differ in an opinion. Tact is the best savior at times.

Most of the employers look for confident people who can multi task. It is true that you must never say, ‘No’ during the first meet but again it is very subjective in nature. The interview looks at your profile as a manager of self and a leader to other work mates. Talking in terms of responsibility, displaying your soft skills and creating a congenial personality are very important part of an interview. Along with the same it’s good to have a well groomed look, good hygiene and impressive attire as per the tone of the interview.

Effective communication skills and self development is a quality and ability to communicate well with people around you and add spice to your life. By adding spice, I mean that your own communication skills will attract people towards you. Your friends, relatives, customers, clients or colleagues will show interest in you and you’ll feel zing in your life.

Here are some steps to improve your communication skills

• Try to expand and develop your voice with softness.
• Slow down your speech to avoid showing that you are nervous.
• Avoid a monotone and use high pitch and soft sound to communicate.
• Don’t mumble while speaking, pronounce each word clearly. People will judge your capabilities through your vocabulary.
• Use the words you know. Don’t use any word, if you are not sure of the meaning. Improve your English speaking skills
• Make eye contact as this will help you to be more confident and people will show interest in you.
• Use body gestures to show your interest in the conversation.
• Make sure that your words, body gestures, facial expression, message and tone all match with one another. None of these should be different. For example, if you say you are concern, show that in your body gestures and facial expressions along with a sift tone.

These days, the education system is also laying focus on teaching good communication skills to mold the formative years of a child into a well organized and approachable professional. High school teachers face lot of challenges in teaching these skills as children mostly learn what they hear every day in their homes and schools.

Here we have gathered some good ways that can help teachers for effectively imparting the knowledge and understanding of communication skills.

Group Learning

Divide students into two groups and conduct a debate or a puzzle for them. Ask both the groups to interact with their team members and prepare a debate. All the students on one group will freely communicate with each other to win the debate.

Game Shows

Here you can make use of the traditional weapon, divide and rule. Divide students into three groups. Ask Team A to prepare few questions on telephone communication skills or verbal communication skills and then tell them ask the question to Team B and Team C. whichever team answers the maximum questions is the winner. Similarly, ask Team B to prepare few questions of interpersonal communication skills and tell them to ask the prepared questions to Team A and Team C. finally, tell Team C to prepare and ask questions on self development. This will complete major aspects of communication. At the end, whichever team earns maximum points will be the final winner. reference: personality development games

Listening in Motion

Ask one student to explain any concept related to communication skills learned in the previous class. Observe both the speaker and the listener. Give every student a chance to speak what he learnt. This way they will learn to speak in a group and will gain confidence. Don’t forget to give appreciation or suggestions for improvement when necessary.

Business needs a lot of clarity. There are various types of business letters that you may come across. The rule for all the same is generalized. They all need to be crisp, matter-of- fact and trendy. The basic rule is to minimize the use of words and punctuations. Elaborate explanations can be done with separate .doc attachments and other supports sent via separate mails. The basic part of email communication is brief and polite. The internet as a medium of communication is fast paced. It allows you to respond and take decisions immediately. Hence using the emails for business communiqués is a splendid idea.

Online approvals save time and paper. It would be great to seek explanation in a point form. These days the online power is so strong that you can actually have a virtual office. This facilitates management and human resource programs. Email etiquettes are about having a simple salutation. There are no clichéd versions in the narrative. The writer must write in a point form so that the subject matter is clarified. The priority setting is again a valid matter for all types of business mails. It brings attention to an important point and urgent issues can be marked as top priority.

Email rules are simple. There has to be a consistency in all the mails. It is always better to respond to the original mail so that there is continuity in the matter. The topic that has to be discussed has to be indicated in the subject line. This draws attention and your boss or subordinates will have an inkling of what is there in the mail. Most mails are viewed on the mobile via internet connection. Hence it is good to simplify the language, avoid jargons and have a direct method of speaking to avoid too much traffic on the same matter.

Expressing your views on email is a very subjective matter. It depends upon authority too. By all means, there is no need to strongly word any kind of email. A simple ‘No’ can be communicated effectively. Again email spamming has to be avoided. Any kind of business communication must not have a personal tone even if it going to your partner in the same cubicle. All this is a sign of professionalism in the business field.

A personality sums up as many inclusions. It could be about gait, composure and general presence. We are always in awe of powerful personalities. Celebrities too have an influence on us. The reason is because they take care to deliver their speech or make their presence felt. It is good to be natural but at the same time it would be nice if we can include a few gestures or traits that will enhance our personality. There is no need to show a loud behavior if much can be delivered with a facial expression or gesture.

Standing with close hands may be comfortable to you but it also means that you do not want any inputs. The best thing about interaction is listening as all of us want to be ‘heard’. Owing to the many contradictions we tend to get into a defensive non verbal mode. This can be threatening for growth and development of self, family life and an organization. Be expressive with your facial expressions. There is no need to say, ‘I agree’ or ‘True’ every time. A simple nod and eye contact will make the talker feel important. Waiting for the entire conversation to get over and taking your time to speak is desired.

For a better impact it is good to use your body language. Walk straight without a slouch and maintain the same posture while you take a seat. Dressing appropriately is required for all formal meets, it is much more than branded accessories or power dressing. A good looking personality ahs the combination of intelligence and attire. Ideally wear something that suits you and is suitable to your environment. Too much of animation makes you look under confident. Know the use of hands at the appropriate time. A genuine smile is a sincere display of intellect and humane quality.

Doodling was okay in school but for a more emphatic meeting or taking lessons in a classroom you will need to work out a more forceful body language. Use your pen to write and not to animate. Take care of the way you turn and sit in meetings. Casual is fine but talking with a chewing gum or sipping water when you want to laugh is certainly undesirable. Etiquettes are always appreciated in any setting. Standing well creates an impression and an effort is needed to maintain a good balance. When you take notes while someone is talking they feel important. Use the nods or eye contact for a complete positive effect.

Good communication skills are special qualities that every human should possess. The modern world of corporate, technology and learning has laid strong emphasis on basic communication skills.

Every human has a misconception that like other qualities, even this quality is in built in human nature, something that is by birth but that’s not so. At any stage of life you can build these qualities within you.
Now, the question waves, how to develop good communication skills?

Below are some of the steps you can follow for effective communication skills :

Make Direct Eye Contact

Make direct eye contacts when you are talking to the other person. This helps you to convey interest and encourage the other person to show interest in your conversation. Even during a speech, looking into the eyes of different people present in front of you can personalize your speech and the people around take interest to hear you.

Stay In Tune with Your Body Language

Body language speaks a lot what you don’t speak, much more than the words of mouth. So, try to maintain a balance between what you say and what your body says. Be aware of what your body is saying. A simple example to this can be experienced when you are giving a speech or consoling a friend. During a speech your words may convey that you are keen to help people in all ways for but if you stand with your arms crossed, your body conveys disinterest and reluctance to communicate. Whereas, when you are consoling your friend for any loss or depression, standing with your arms free on your sides convey that you are easily accessible.

Speak Loudly

When you speak loudly, it gives a feeling of confidence. The people whom you are in conversation with have the feeling that you mean what you say. An appropriate volume, tone and confidence ensure listeners hear exactly what you are saying.

Practice

This is one such quality that can be practiced. You can daily practice these skills according to different settings from being social to professional. You can also attend some courses for developing these skills and explore new communication opportunities on the internet and by social media marketing.

Have you been to a party and been bored? This is a common syndrome when you cannot link yourself to a situation. Many times we all need to participate rather than stay passive. We need to attend condolence meets, talk to our new neighbors and generally participate in a neutral conversation in an elevator. All of us need not excel in speaking well and this should not be a deterrent to diminish ourselves in the social circle. For speaking with strangers the rules are very simple. Nothing personal and toning down anyone kind of sensitive topics works well.

In case you are called on the podium to say a few words, you can begin with an apt talk about the current event. In tandem with the same, you can thank the opportunity to air your thoughts. What happens is the right allocation of time works when you are on the mike. People love to listen to anything that is informative along with the touch of reality. Anecdotes and soft humor works so much in gaining the confidence of the audience. You can also speak to a panel of judges during your interview by portraying a good body language.

Many times listening actively works well during a conversation. Supposing it’s an informal group of friends who are meeting after many years. This reunion is important to you to share and communicate. Wait for a good time to speak. When you realize the enthusiasm is high give the right response by nodding or other facial affirmation. The beauty of body language is very positive and encourages all your friends to chip in details about what they have been doing all these years. When the time is appropriate, give them more details about yourself.

During a business meet it is important to notice skills amongst peers. During a presentation it’s essential to know how the audience is feeling. Looking at their response or talks it is good to give your consent. Speaking would be necessary depending if a direct question is put before you. Most times seniors do the business deals and it is good to learn by watching them. The contract is essential and valid comments or assurance that you can do the job is well communicated with a confident body language.

Addressing a mob to calm down requires special skills. The best way is to listen to an appointed leader and go with the efforts to calm a situation. Participating improves your confidence level and is very good for your self esteem. You can step further and prove yourself with good talking. Speaking with a well modulated voice and with a calm intellect works really good for the entire team. Along with the same power dressing is essential.

Knowing the target audience is important whenever we do any kind of research. If we are asked to speak on a forum of our school PTA then it is important to know the main issue that is being discussed. This brings a lot of focus to all the participants. There are no great oratory skills required but it good to improve your knowledge and seek new words. Interaction makes it possible for us to learn more about happenings. The process of communication can cross barriers only if the speaker or the leader is able to know the pulse of the audience.

Before we learn to communicate we need to make several types of research. A client may be knowledgeable about the general happenings. But as a professional your expert opinion is valued. Hence knowing what the audience knows is very important before your put a point across. Most times a poor presentation fails to communicate when it is not supported ably. This can be the audio channels, graphics or simply the language. Corporate lingo keeps improving and making the rounds. It is an important aspect to highlight the same. The perfection can be achieved by working closely with the expectations of the client.

In case you are unaware of the audience you are facing. For e.g. it is your first day at work, then it good if you can spend time in knowing about them. A one way communication is boring and will not be ‘felt’ by the audience. To know about the audience’s reaction the speaker must leave some room for discussion. Even when we want to express a strong comment or expect a target to be completed without delay, it is good to have the opinion of the team leader. The audience has to be understood and their handicaps have to be effectively understood to make the project doable.

Marketing is a phenomenal change and can either increase sales or bring down the same. Connecting the audience with the sales is vital. You need to conduct a survey that tells you about the expectations of the audience in relation with price, product and other competitive requirements. Only by interaction and communication can we achieve. The interest level of the audience may dip while communication lengthy agenda and hence a good deal of wit or interesting anecdotes will do good to liven the spirit of participation. The two way channel of sending and receiving the message helps us to know the problems faced by the audience during communication.
